Voluntary and Mandatory Mediation

Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution method that aims to resolve conflicts between parties through peaceful means. In our legal system, there are two types of mediation practices: Voluntary Mediation and Mandatory (Court-Ordered) Mediation.

Voluntary Mediation is a process initiated solely based on the will of the parties, without any legal obligation. The parties may choose to start or end the mediation at any time.

Mandatory Mediation, on the other hand, is required by law before initiating a lawsuit in certain types of disputes—such as labor law cases, commercial disputes, and rental disagreements. Without completing this mediation step, it is not possible to file a lawsuit in these matters.
